Podcasting is just a natural extension to the existing RSS functionality. Really the existing RSS functionality needs to be cleaned up and enhanced. There are a number of enhancements that would make the RSS feeds more useful in the available podcatcher applications. There are some comments regarding needed enhancements here: Tiki RssFeedDev but it is difficult to tell which parts might already be fixed.
