- Encapsulation of xPL messages to transport network specific format
- Managing retransmission behavior
- Adding the source MAC to the transmission
- Implementing APIs specific to the transport network (e.g. XBee)

- XBee Radio Modules with both async and SPI PHY layers
- Serial MAC with Async, SPI, and RS485 PHY layers
