exPL MAC Layer

This section contains the low speed MAC layer definition for xPL.

The MAC layer is responsible for and defines:
  • Encapsulation of xPL messages to transport network specific format
  • Managing retransmission behavior
  • Adding the source MAC to the transmission
  • Implementing APIs specific to the transport network (e.g. XBee)

Each transport network will have unique definitions for the MAC and PHY layers. The following transport networks are currently defined:

  • XBee Radio Modules with both async and SPI PHY layers
  • Serial MAC with Async, SPI, and RS485 PHY layers
